The scheduled Corinthian race to Sabbath Day Point was shortened due to weather to using the Northwest Bay shoal buoy as a turning mark. Although the dreary, foggy start turned into a beautiful sailing day with even a glimpse of blue sky and sun by the end of the race. With the wind out of the south at 12-15 knots, five boats enjoyed a great sail around the Canoe Islands to Northwest Bay shoal and back to the finish off Diamond Point in two and a half hours. A two-tack beat from Northwest Bay Shoal back to the finish earned Moriah a first place finish on corrected time, followed by Jam, Cut Loose, Revolution and Cosmic Corner. Complete results

Sunday, September 11 will be the last race of the season for the Corinthians, followed by awards and the annual cookout at the Dickinson's on Rockhurst. Usual format: 12:30 start. Take your own time. Report to committee boat via Channel 66 or 796-4907. Immediately after the race will be the get-together at the Dickinson's on Rockhurst for season awards and annual cook-out. Boats may tie up or anchor off the dock.

This Sunday, August 28, is the Sabbath Day Point Race the Corinthian's second long-distance race of the season. Shorter than June's Ti Race,, but you'll still get the opportunity to sail through the Narrows and the Mother Bunch to the turning mark at Sabbath Day Point, just north of (and across the lake from) Huletts Landing. Because of the length of the race the committee boat will be on station at 9am for a 9:30 start. Both start and finish are planned to be at Hogback Reef. Take your own time and report to the Committee Boat as soon as possible via Chanel 66 or 796-4907. The current forecast puts Hurricane Irene hitting southern New Jersey on Sunday afternoon, so with luck we'll get enough breeze for a good race, but in the event that Irene proves more threatening the race will be shortened.
UPDATE: With Irene making a strong appearance at the lake, Race 4 will be rescheduled for Sept. 4, 9:30 start.

Join the Corinthians on Sunday, July 31 for the annual Women's Race. Although it's actually a "women on the helm" race — male crew-members are permitted, but women are driving and calling the shots. The committee boat will be on station at noon for a 12:30 start in the usual starting area near Hogback Reef. At the finish, take your own time and report back to Race Committee on channel 66 or by phone at 796-4907 as soon as possible.
